Let us go deeper! The history of Christianity is filled with glorious demonstrations of the truth and power of the gospel. Through centuries, when Christians have lived out their faith by putting the cultural commission and the great commission to work, they have renewed, restored, and on occasions even built new cultures. They have literally turned the world upside down. Starting in January, I would like to meet with a group of teens once or twice a month that feel a calling to this class through prayer.
We will talk deeper about the five popular worldview questions: what is truth? Answer; absolute truth can be found in God and His revealed Word (truth), where do we come from? Answer; God created all things and created humans in His image (creation), what has gone wrong with the world? Answer; because of the fall the world and all people are corrupted (sin), how do we make things better? Answer; Jesus came into this world to die for our sins and restore our relationship with God (salvation), how then should we live? Answer; love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and your neighbor as yourself (virtues).
No man is an island or prison and having the teens understand that every decision we make reflects our worldview; therefore, having them able to discern and defend their faith is essential. Teaching the teens to provide a conceptual structure by which they can identify what is wrong with non-Christians ways of thinking and then formulate a Christian perspective on every subject. Therefore, transformed people and transformed cultures that are what every believer is called to do! Moreover, God does not call His people simply to run around putting out fires after the secular world has lighted them. He calls us to light our own fires, to renew cultures. Since humanity is created in the image of God, they will create culture of one kind or another. The only question is whether it will be a decadent culture or a Godly one. I believe they can create a Godly culture.
The resource and book that will be used is the Bible and for the beginning it will be Mere Christianity, by C.S.Lewis.
